Meet Adelaide Champion - Tiffany Dean
Quote for hall of fame:
Just go for it! Have fun and trust your ability
What character did you cosplay for the Adelaide/Perth heat?
For the Adelaide heat, I cosplayed an armoured version of Kindred from League of Legends - based on the design by Cindery's Art originally for KaliganCosplay
What inspired you to cosplay as this character?
I love the lore of this character, and as soon as I saw Cindery's design, I fell in love. I loved how she incorporated both the Lamb and Wolf elements into a solo cosplay - most designs I'd seen required 2 people. I loved the style and the challenge I knew the build would provide, so after getting permission from both designer and commissioner, I knew I had to make it!
How long did it take to make your cosplay?
It took approximately 600 hours over about 3 months
What was the best part of cosplaying in the Adelaide/Perth heat of the Australian Championships of Cosplay?
Being able to be with like-minded people and just the general atmosphere. It's so much fun and I love how supportive people are of each other.
What are you most looking forward to about the National Finals at Oz Comic-Con Sydney?
I'm looking forward to meeting the other contestants and seeing their amazing work up close and in person. I'm also looking forward to being at a Sydney OZCC and getting to be apart of the community there for a couple of days!
When did you first start cosplaying? What was your first cosplay?
I made my first costume in 2011 but didn't start actually really cosplaying until about 2014. I only learnt of the term Cosplay in 2013. My first cosplay was Lara Croft from Tomb Raider Legend - Lara is one of my childhood heroes.
What tips do you have for someone starting out in cosplay?
To always stay true to themselves and what they love. Make sure you have fun and don't lose sight of what draws you into cosplay. Don't be afraid to try new things and know that there is no real 'wrong' way to cosplay. Always be open for learning and growing and never be afraid to ask people for help. I always recommend people cosplay characters they love too - the passion will show through, and it helps people get through those challenges that may arise!
What is something in the costume making process you struggle with, or want to learn to do better?
I'm my own worst critic, and I'm a very harsh one of myself, so I constantly want to do better in all areas of cosplay. I would love to be able to sew at a higher quality though. I would love to be able to make a bodysuit filled with piping or a boned corset and have it look professional / store bought. Quality is always something I strive for, and I'd love my sewing to get to a professional level as it's something I've always been able to do (and am getting better at), but I'm still not where I'd like to be. I'd also love to learn more about patterns for sewing and knowing how to get the patterns right for a perfect fit.
Besides cosplay, what other nerdy things are you into? Comics, games, etc.,?
I love video games, anime and comics. I don't play / watch / read as many as I would like (cosplay, work, horses etc lol) but I do love them all and gaming is what I do most out of them all. I also love movies - especially sci-fi / fantasy and comic adaptations. I also love collecting statues that come with games or are rare and unique - they're great for cosplay reference! LOL.
If you had to pick a superpower, what would it be and why?
Oh gosh this is a hard one!! There's so many reasons as to why so many different powers would be awesome! Teleportation would be pretty handy though! If you could take people with you anyway lol. It'd make travel to work faster (more time for cosplays!) and I could take family and friends on holidays anywhere in the world! 😀
