Daniel Portman is a Scottish actor best known for his role as Podrick Payne on HBO's "Game of Thrones".
Daniel, son of actor Ron Donachie, was born in Glasgow and raised in Strathbungo. He attended Shawlands Academy, where he was head boy, and he initially wanted to be a professional rugby player until he broke his leg in a match when he was 16 years old. He then turned his attentions to acting and gained an HNC in acting at Reid Kerr College, Paisley. That year he also had his first role in the supernatural thriller "Outcast", starring James Nesbitt, before performing in the Scottish comedy "The Angels' Share", and securing an ongoing role in the Scottish soap "River City".
Daniel was cast in 2011 as loyal squire Podrick Payne, opposite first Peter Dinklage's Tyrion Lannister, then Gwendoline Christie's Brienne of Tarth, in the award-winning HBO fantasy drama series "Game of Thrones". To date, he has managed not to join the series' rather lengthy list of dead characters and continues to portray the role to positive acclaim from fans.
