Melbourne

Christopher Lambert is a French actor best known for his role as Connor MacLeod in "Highlander" and the subsequent movie franchise series of the same name. He is also known for his roles as Tarzan in "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes" and as the thunder god Raiden in the first movie adaptation of the video game "Mortal Kombat".

Though born in Great Neck, Long Island, Christopher's family left the US when he was only two years old. His father was a United Nations diplomat assigned to Switzerland and as a result, Christopher was educated at private boarding schools in Geneva. Inspired after appearing in a play at age 12, he went to the Paris Conservatoire where he remained for two years. After a few small parts in French films, he was discovered by international audiences when director Hugh Hudson cast him in the title role of "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes". In 1985, Christopher played the male lead in Luc Besson's "Subway", for which he was awarded a César Award for Best Actor.

Two years later Christopher brought to the screen Gregory Widens' legendary Connor MacLeod, the immortal "Highlander", born in the Highlands of Scotland in 1518 and carrying over into the futuristic "Highlander II: The Quickening", and "Highlander: The Final Dimension".

During the 1990s, Lambert starred in action, thriller and science fiction films such as "Knight Moves", "Fortress", "Gunmen", and "Mean Guns", and the Italian-produced "Nirvana". During the course of that decade he also occasionally appeared in French films, such as "Max et Jérémie".

In 1995, Christopher played the role of the thunder god Raiden in a movie adaptation of the popular video game series "Mortal Kombat". He was interested in reprising his character in the sequel, but he was committed to his role in "Beowulf". In 2009, Christopher was a lead in Claire Denis' "White Material"; both the film and his performance received critical acclaim. He also appeared in the Marvel Comics film "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" in 2012. In recent years he has become a producer while continuing to act in mostly action/adventure films.
